55 Runs for 55 Year Old Runner

When Spencer Kingdom accompanied his wife Cherie to her first appointment at the Primrose Breast Care Centre, he never expected to hear the devastating news that she might have breast cancer. Cherie is just 42, she is young, fit & healthy; breast cancer just wasn’t something either of them had ever expected would enter their lives. But one week after attending the first clinic appointment they were given the devastating news that Cherie had grade 2 breast cancer and within days was giving surgery to remove the cancer.

“Everything happened so quickly” said Spencer “it was almost like being caught up in a whirlwind. One minute life is normal and you’re going about your normal day and the next you’re dealing with a huge bombshell of emotions.

Spencer and Cherie

Whilst everything happened so quickly the treatment and care Cherie has received has been wonderful, kind and caring. We are very new to this and aren’t entirely sure what’s around the corner, but whatever is thrown at us we will get through it together”.

Spencer continues “Because of the outstanding care, Cherie has received so far, I wanted to do what I do best which is running and turn my passion into fundraising so that I can give back to the service that has looked after my wife. I will be running 55 organised running events throughout 2022 for my 55th birthday culminating in a 55k Ultramarathon.

So far, we have already raised over £2,000, and that was in the first week so by the end of the year who knows what is possible with the generosity of others”.

If this experience has taught us anything it is this:

“Cancer can happen to any of us, at any point in our lives so don’t take life for granted. Every 1 in 7 women develop breast cancer, more and more younger women are diagnosed every year.

Let’s do our best to aid the service that helps these women – support The Primrose Foundation so they can support you when you need it.

Finally, can I just say how incredibly proud of my wife I am, she has been amazing throughout, she is the most beautiful woman inside and out, she makes me proud every day and I love her very much”.
