Intrepid Trio Go From Golfers to Fundraisers
Ian Jacob, Stephen Bartlett, and Kevin Thomas are showing us all how you can turn any passion into a fundraising feat.
Ian, Stephen & Kevin are a group of retired local friends from Plymouth and Cornwall who are taking on an ‘ultimate sponsored golfing tournament’ in aid of The Primrose Foundation throughout 2022. The group started in January this year and are anticipating the challenge to last throughout the year.
The intrepid trio have much in common from recently retiring, engineering, golfing, and being active members of The China Fleet Club. Both Stephen & Kevin retired from Collins Aerospace and Ian retired from Applied Automation Ltd (who have supported the Primrose Foundation as their chosen charity over the past two years).
The friends have set themselves the challenge of playing all the courses affiliated with the Cornwall Golf Union, which consists of 29 courses in total to play, including one on the Isles of Scilly. They are hoping to secure sponsorship for their fundraising challenge, which involves completing all 19 holes
The Primrose Foundation is a charity close to their hearts, especially as both Ian and Stephen’s wives have been affected by breast cancer. Ian's wife, Joanne, recently had a lumpectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is currently awaiting the results of her first annual check-up since surgery. Stephen’s wife, Jackie, originally diagnosed in early 2020, is at present undergoing her second round of treatment for breast cancer at The Primrose Centre.
Both ladies received “outstanding care” from everyone at The Primrose Breast Care Centre, University Hospitals Plymouth and the fundraising golf tournament is their personal way of saying “thank you” for the care.
The determined trio will continue to keep us updated on their progress (and scores!) throughout the year. You can find out more, follow their news and show your support by visiting their Justgiving page which can be found here https://www.justgiving.com/team/WNDY22
On behalf of everyone at The Primrose Foundation may we wish Ian, Stephen, and Kevin the very best of luck and thank you for choosing to support The Primrose Foundation.
