Volunteering For The Primrose Foundation

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce Joan to you.  Joan is one of The Primrose Foundation’s dedicated volunteers.  She has volunteered for The Foundation for many years and has always thrown herself into a variety of different roles since becoming part of the team - Joan is never afraid of rolling up her sleeves and getting stuck in to whatever task she is given.

Being a volunteer for The Primrose Foundation is a rewarding experience.  It has many benefits, including meeting new people and forming new friendships, as well as giving you the opportunity to make a real difference in your local community.

Joan tells us more about why she volunteers for the Foundation;

‘’I love fundraising because I just love helping people.  As I have been there myself, I understand what the patients are going through. I love helping The Primrose Foundation as it gives me an opportunity to give back to the service that was so wonderful to me. I will always be grateful to everyone at The Primrose Centre and all the staff.

Joan is also an active fundraiser and has helped raised over £23,000 for The Primrose Foundation.  From baring all as one of the ‘Dare 2 Bare’ ladies, to learning how to can-can, Joan is always at the forefront of wanting to help create a better future for patients.

She knows what it is like to be on the receiving end of treatment.  Following a diagnosis of breast cancer over 8 years ago, Joan had a cancerous tumour removed and underwent 6 weeks of intense chemotherapy.  She is an amazing example of life after cancer. Joan has given so much back to the breast service over the years and continues to do whatever she can. Our fundraising Coordinator, Maddy, says;

“From the moment I met Joan I knew she had a big heart; I have loved working with her for the past few years. From helping with coffee mornings, to attending events Joan is always there to lend a hand. I have seen Joan dress up as Mrs Clause, a Christmas elf, an Easter bunny and so much more. She continues to entertain us all.

It has been a pleasure to get to know her and all the volunteers over the years. The Foundation wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for our army of volunteers helping us every step of the way.  So, thank you to Joan and everyone who gives up their time to help, we really do appreciate it.”
