Breast Cancer Survivor Runs a Marathon in a Month to Help Celebrate 25 years of The Primrose Foundation
Alex Shute from Liskeard was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer back in December 2019 after finding a lump earlier that year. Throughout 2020, Alex went through Chemotherapy and various surgeries, on her own, during Covid 19 and has come out the other side, all clear!
Alex, a mum of three, says: “The team at Primrose saved my life and to help them celebrate 25 years of all the incredible work they do in the community and to do my bit for them – I ran a marathon over the course of a month from February to March in 2021. I had not run since October 2019 and was extremely nervous however I managed to rope in lots of friends at different stages of the challenge, which really kept my motivation high. My final 5K or 3.1 miles was on Saturday 27th February and 9 of my family and friends ran ‘virtually’ with me using Facetime and earphones.”
In total Alex has managed to raise just over £2,130. She also raised over £700 separately from organising various sweepstakes on the ‘Bake Off’, ‘Strictly’ and ‘I’m a Celeb’ towards the end of 2020, which she absolutely loved.
Our Fundraising Coordinator, Maddy, said: “It has been an absolute privilege to meet Alex and some of her family. I first met her shortly after her diagnosis.Even at that stage of treatment she was determined to fundraise for us.Like many, Alex had not heard about The Primrose Foundation and all the great work we do until she was diagnosed with breast cancer and was treated at The Primrose Breast Care Centre. We would like to say a massive thank you to Alex and everyone who has supported and motivated her throughout this incredible fundraiser.”
