Dame Margaret Fry DBE

Dame Margaret was educated at Tavistock Grammar School and while at school played hockey for Devon.

Dame Margaret always had a special connection with many charity groups across the South West. She is a former member of the South West Regional Health Authority, former Chairman of the South West College of Nursing and Chairman of the Torridge and South West Devon College of Health. She also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry Fundraising Foundation.

Dame Margaret was also a founding member of the Primrose Appeal in 1997. The Appeal raised over £500,000 to build the Primrose Unit and continues to support the work of the Centre. From the start she was Chairman of Trustees of The Primrose Foundation, a role which continued for fifteen years until February 2012 when she retired. She continued to serve as a valued trustee for the Foundation until her passing.

She also had a distinguished political career, serving as Chairman of the National Union of Conservative Associations in 1990 and as President of the Torridge & West Devon Conservative Association, latterly becoming a Patron.

Dame Margaret was appointed an OBE in 1982 and a DBE in 1989. In November 2011 he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Plymouth. Sadly, Dame Margaret died in February 2018 but her legacy continues.
