LOVE Yourself Enough To Be Breast Aware

  • The Primrose Foundation The Primrose Breast Care Centre University Hospitals Plymouth Plymouth, PL6 8DH (map)

With breast cancer affecting more women than ever before, it’s time to start paying more attention to your breasts/ chest and the areas around them by introducing self-check Sunday into your monthly routine.

If you don’t already regularly check your breasts, can we ask that from October (breast cancer awareness month) you begin to LOVE Yourself Enough To Be Breast Aware by taking just a few minutes once a month to check your breasts/ chest and the areas around them – getting to Know your body and regularly looking out for changes could save your life.

Did you know that there are many symptoms and signs of breast cancer, everyone is different so if something doesn’t look or feel right, get it checked out.

Here are just some of the signs of breast cancer:

  • A lump or swelling in the breast, upper chest, or armpit

  • A change to the skin, such as puckering or dimpling

  • A change in the colour of the breast – the breast may look red or inflamed

  • A nipple change, for example, has become inverted

  • A rash or crusting around the nipple

  • An unusual liquid (discharge) from either nipple

  • A change in size or shape of the breast.

Most often a breast change isn’t cancer but if it is then the sooner it is found, the more successful treatment is likely to be. Breast cancer can affect anyone at any point in their lives. Over 550 women in West Devon and East Cornwall are diagnosed with primary breast cancer annually.

Early detection saves lives and takes minutes to follow. To show your support please add a Sunday Self-Check reminder to your diary or follow us on social media and let us give you a gentle reminder to LOVE Yourself Enough To Be Breast-Aware.

There’s no right, or wrong way to check your breasts, whether you empower in the shower or invest in your breasts before you get dressed, it’s time to:

  • Look out for lumps, bumps, or dimpling.

  • Observe changes or something new.

  • Voice your concerns to a medical professional.

  • Echo this message to others.
