Helping to Aid Comfort at a Difficult Time

Did you know that approximately 300 people are seen in the Primrose Breast Care Centre, University Hospitals Plymouth every week? There are many different clinics running alongside each other, these include:

  •  A one-stop appointment (GP referral)

  • Family history clinic

  • Surveillance screening appointments

  • Routine & recall mammogram appointments

  • Ultrasound appointments

  • Nurse-led drop-in clinics

  • Follow-up results clinics

  • Follow-up appointments from surgery

On average seven one-stop clinics are held per week where an estimated 16 people attend. A one-stop clinical appointment is when a person has been referred by their GP due to a lump, bump, lesion, or something that just doesn’t look or feel right.

These appointments are designed to make a difficult time slightly easier by offering a variety of different tests to determine what the problem is therefore you are likely to see a few different people – this is so that the team can assess and determine what is going on.

Often patients are asked to wear a specific gown when they attend the Primrose centre, these garments are cleverly designed to help accessing the breasts easier and allows a person to feel more dignified during their appointment.

Attending any type of breast appointment can be an anxious time, whether you are new to the service or returning due to obtaining results or following on from surgery. The staff within the breast centre will do all they can to help make the process as comfortable as possible.

It is also part of The Primrose Foundation’s core objectives to support patients, we do this in multiple ways as directed by staff and patient feedback. We exist to help add comfort and support to Primrose patients and would like to invite you to help us in our latest mission of updating our primrose patient gowns.

Each gown costs approximately £12. We would like to ask you to consider donating the cost of just one gown so everyone is given a fresh garment whilst undergoing an appointment that requires a thorough investigation – whilst we cant take the anxiety that many feel whilst attending their appointments we can help bring a little comfort to a difficult time and need your help to make this possible.
