Getting to Know You – Fiona

Hello, I am Fiona Osmaston and I have been part of The Primrose Foundation for four years now.

I originally joined as a Trustee and in September 2022 I became the chair of this wonderful charity.

I was a Primrose patient and am now almost 6 years “no evidence of disease”. I joined the team as I wanted to help ensure all patients get a great experience at a challenging time.

My role as chair involves, chairing meetings, discussing grant funding applications submitted by staff, attending various fundraising events and a bit of public speaking on behalf of the Charity.

Some of my favourite highlights include getting the big pink screening awareness bus on the road, meeting so many of our amazing fundraisers and being able to help spread the word on the importance of breast screening as well as being part of a team that helps to ensure people going through treatment for breast cancer feel supported at such a difficult time.

Alongside being a Trustee I am also a Geography lead for teacher training at Marjon and am a Governor at Stoke Damerel Community College, where I work for 2 days a week as a tutor.

Some interesting facts about me are:

  • I once flew a Hercules over the Falkland Islands! I was part of a red paddleboard advertising campaign! I am also part of a local group of breast cancer thrivers called Dare 2 who have fundraised over £32,000 for The Primrose Foundation.

  • I am part of a local running club called, The Coach to Cake Club, where we run 5km and then eat cake.  I like to do Pilates/barre, swim in the sea and paddleboard.  I also love to cook and host dinner parties.

  • My breast cancer came out of the blue, it has changed my life, I didn’t welcome it – however, it has given me an opportunity to meet some amazing people and take part in this really important charity.
