Plymouth Man Takes on Mammoth Cycle & Mountain Climb Challenge

Daniel Box and his two boys.

Daniel Box from Plymouth is about to embark on an ultimate ride, setting off from Plymouth Hoe and riding all the way to Snowdon in Wales. With the encouragement of his friend, James Barkell the two men will then take on the additional challenge of climbing the highest mountain in Wales.

Daniel is no stranger to fundraising, it’s something that he feels deeply passionate about, but this fundraiser is different as The Primrose Foundation is a cause close to Daniel's heart, here Dan explains why:

Daniel and Rebecca

“Unfortunately, my wife Rebecca was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in April of 2021. As you can imagine this was horrific news to deal with, but the staff at the Primrose Centre made it easier to digest with compassion and professionalism. Throughout the treatment, Bex has routinely visited the Centre and was in regular contact with the staff. She had to have chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy. All the staff have been amazing. Their job must be an emotional roller-coaster, but they manage to maintain their friendly, caring approach to every person they see and treat.

On 30th December 2021, Bex had her last radiotherapy session and got to ring the end of treatment bell. I am immensely proud of her. She has fought this terrible disease with such strength and dignity. It's been extremely tough, but she's managed to continue being an amazing Mum to our two boys and make their year fun and eventful.

Rebecca rings the End of Treatment Bell.

I am so thankful to the staff of Primrose and wanted to do something for them and future patients. I would like to raise a nice amount of money and decided with my friend James to plan something challenging to earn it. We've subsequently decided to cycle from Plymouth to Snowdon and walk up it over three days in April 2022. 150 miles the first day, 90 the second day and 60 the last day. Plus, the massive hike up Snowdon.

Our mission is to raise as much as possible, and we would like our fundraising efforts to go towards anything that will make future patients time in Primrose slightly more comfortable/bearable as we understand what a difficult and worrying time it can be”
