New Part-time Clinical Psychologist Joins The Breast Service Thanks To Local Support
The Primrose Foundation is thrilled to announce our latest funding project, which has been possible by the generosity and continued support of our donors.
We are elated to confirm that The Primrose Foundation has funded a part-time Clinical Psychologist for two years. This new appointment will cost over £45,000 to fund and will be of huge benefit to the service and the many patients that require Psychological support, before, during and after treatment.
Kate Lansdell, Nurse Consultant/Lead Nurse Primrose Breast Centre explains more about this vital role:
“We are delighted that Katie was able to join the existing team at The Primrose Breast Care Centre, University Hospitals Plymouth in May 2021. The service feels incredibly lucky to have the support of The Primrose Foundation to enable us to bring in skilled practitioners such as Katie to help support the patients we work with at such challenging times in their lives.
This new appointment will support patients in the various pathways through the Primrose centre where extra support, advice, or assessment in making tough but necessary decisions are needed. This will be additional support as well as the support a patient receives from a Specialist breast Care Nurses and other Allied Professionals.
Katie will support patients contemplating risk reduction and reconstruction surgeries, those struggling with the impact of cancer on their lives, those experiencing difficulty in deciding which treatment course, or intervention would be best for them, or other issues impacting mental health relating to the work we do in the Primrose breast care centre.
Psychology support is immensely beneficial to those particularly with high risk of developing breast cancer, or those personally affected by breast cancer. It is also vital for those making huge decisions regarding reconstruction or mastectomy, or other interventions at a time of immense personal stress is exceptionally difficult. Expert advice and counselling has been shown to improve satisfaction outcomes, reduce stress and help make decisions that patients are happy to live with in the long term”.
