Taking on The London Marathon In Aid Of The Primrose Foundation
As you may recall in 2020, we asked for as many people as possible to come forward and apply to represent The Primrose Foundation at the 2021 London Marathon.
We received lots of amazing applications from staff, patients and their families and simply could not decide who to give the place to therefore we opted to put everyone’s names in a hat and draw one lucky person. The draw finally took place in August last year via Facebook and we were thrilled that our lovely Wendy’s name was drawn.
Wendy has lived in Plymouth all her life; she is 64 years young and has been married to her husband Steve for 46yrs. They have two grown up children Michelle and Kris, Michelle lives in Looe and Kris in Norway, they also have a very lovely and very spoilt furry friend called Gabby whom they spend a lot of time walking.
Wendy is a keen runner and runs for a local running club called Storm. Wendy only started running when she was 52 and hasn’t looked back since. She has run various half marathons over the years but nothing as big as this, however she welcomes the new challenge and has already been training hard since hearing the news that she will be running in aid of The Primrose Foundation this October.
Wendy retired in March 2020 from the Primrose breast care centre after working there for over 15 years, she even remembers when it was the original Primrose Ward.
Wendy said; “Running the London Marathon for The Primrose Foundation for their 25th Anniversary will be an absolute privilege, I am determined to finish the marathon and raise as much money as possible for the Foundation.
She continued to say; ‘’To me the Primrose Centre is a family, a dedicated team of which I had the privilege of being part of. Each member of staff shows complete passion to everyone they see and treat, to me they provide a world class service. I feel so honoured to call all the staff of the Primrose Centre lifelong friends. I feel very humble to have been able to help all the lovely patients.
Wendy is aiming to reach a minimum target of £1500 and has some exciting ideas planned to help reach this target from raffles to bake sales and more- Wendy would love to reach this fundraising target as the money she will raise will fund 100 new patient gowns for patients that visit the Primrose breast care centre. Patients require specialist gowns to wear when they are referred to the one-stop clinic. The gowns the centre currently supply have become faded and worn with age therefore Wendy wanted to give the patients new and fresh gowns to wear.
We would love for you to get behind Wendy and show your support and would encourage everyone to donate to her fundraising page:
Our fundraising coordinator Maddy said; We are thrilled to have Wendy represent us in the 2021 London Marathon, this is the first time in several years that someone has ran the marathon for us and we could not be more thrilled that it is Wendy. Please remember every penny or pound you donate makes the world of difference.
