Wing Walking Fundraiser
Congratulations to Claire Deacon, age 49 from Plymstock, Plymouth who set herself the bewildering and brave task of taking part in her first wing walk in aid of The Primrose Foundation.
As it will be Claire’s 50th birthday in November 2020 she wanted to take part in a life-long dream of wing walking therefore she decided to take in this challenge and raise some money at the same time for The Primrose Foundation.
Claire who is Head of Partnerships Operations at the University of Plymouth - decided to undertake this adventure for two reasons, firstly because her dear friend, Dawn was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing treatment at The Primrose breast care Centre and secondly because her Mum (age 77) is a breast cancer survivor. Claire’s Mum actually wanted to take part in the wing walk this year but in the end, they decided that sky diving in New Zealand 10 years ago was probably enough!
The event was originally due to take place on 25th May however due to COVID restrictions this was postponed, but Claire was finally able to take to the air on the 20th September at Dunkeswell Airfield, Honiton, Devon. Claire was surrounded by the love and support of friends and family.
Claire’s husband Mark said, "I think my wife is absolutely crazy to do the Wing Walk but couldn't think of a more deserving cause as The Primrose Foundation. I keep telling her 'planes have seats on the inside for a reason' - I wouldn't do it myself but I am very happy to support her".
Claire said that her friends and work colleagues at the University of Plymouth (where she has worked since 1998) also think I am crazy too, but I kept telling them, it’s all for a good cause.
In total Claire raised a staggering £1,155 which is just incredible.
On behalf of everyone at The Primrose Foundation may we say a big thank you to Claire for taking part in this brave challenge and to everyone who supported and donated to this event.
