Breast Awareness Month

As you may know, October is Breast cancer awareness month. This is an international health campaign designed to raise awareness of the disease and to help raise the profile of the breast cancer charities that help to support and fund essential beast care services.

The Primrose Foundation is your only local breast care charity that supports the Primrose breast care centre at University Hospitals Plymouth. We do this by funding essential equipment, research, education and staff development.  We also work with the whole of the Breast care team and our dedicated volunteers to make our patient’s experience as comfortable as possible, in addition to also supporting the families and friends of those affected by breast cancer.

During this month we are reaching out to as many people as possible and asking for your support to help to continue the great work we do.

Did you know?

  • In 2019, 548 patients were diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the Primrose centre? That is an average of over 45 patients per month.

  • The Primrose breast care centre currently see an average of 100 patients every week.

  • The Primrose Breast care centre stayed open throughout the first spike of COVID cases, and plans to remain open through the second, despite the considerable difficulties the service will face, with close patient contact.

  • From January 2019 to July 2020, 321 patients were diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the Primrose centre?

These are all startling but true facts. The chances of you or someone you know therefore being affected by breast cancer are rising every day and so your help is needed more than ever.
