The Primrose Foundation are Fundraising for Two New Breast Care Nurses to Join The Primrose Breast Care Centre at University Hospitals Plymouth

The Primrose Foundation, your local breast care charity is due to celebrate their 25th anniversary and raising over £1.2 million for local breast care services over those years. On this momentous occasion The Foundation are pleased to announce their next fundraising goal that is to provide two additional new part time breast care nurses for The Primrose breast care Centre at University Hospitals Plymouth.

Madeleine Matthews, Fundraising Co-Ordinator explains more: “These new posts are crucial for the expanding services that are being delivered by the Primrose breast care centre, however they do, of course come at a cost of over £25,000 per nurse. Both posts will support the existing team, the first will look after patients going through immediate and delayed reconstructive surgery and the second post is for a nurse experienced in breast oncology who will help to support patients requiring oncology treatment. Both of these vital roles will have such a positive impact on the service and will allow more patients to be cared for speedily.”

Madeleine continues: “Whilst we have happily agreed to fund these posts, the current climate means we now need to raise funds to take care of lots of other things in the breast services ever expending wish lists! Our next big fund raiser was to be our 25th Anniversary ball on April 18th. However, we have now postponed this event due to Covid 19 and are now looking at new ways to meet our much-needed fund raising goal and also to keep safe.

Over 200 people walk through the doors of The Primrose breast care centre every month therefore we need to continue supporting this service by funding equipment, further research, education, staff development and additional resources and services that make a patient’s experience more comfortable. The Foundation also work with staff and volunteers to provide support for the families and friends affected by breast cancer.

One-way people can fundraise easily from their homes and help us continue all this great work is to ‘Wear something yellow’ for The Primrose Foundation on 18th April. That’s it – it is that easy! Just an item of yellow or go all out and dress head to toe! Take a picture and post on The Primrose Foundation page and donate just £2.25 via just giving:

If that doesn’t work for you, The Primrose Foundation have put some tips and advice on how you could still hold a virtual fundraising event on their website so do go check it out.

Madeleine Matthews concludes: “Whilst we are facing an unprecedented global crisis, we still need to remember that patients are sadly being diagnosed with breast cancer every day and those receiving treatment for breast cancer still require our breast care services, in these uncertain times. We therefore want to continue to support our local NHS breast care services more than ever. Please help us do that while staying safe and healthy in your own homes.”
